img_3435_55.jpgThe following photos were taken during my cruise on the Carnival Freedom in late October 2009. We’ve visited three ports: Cozumel in Yucatan (Mexico), Limon in Costa Rica and Colon in Panama – and having been to all those places before hasn’t made it easy to decide what excursions to take.

Cozumel, Mexico

On a rented scooter, we drove to San Gervasio and visited old Mayan ruins in the centre of the island. Afterwards, we circled the island clockwise and had authentic Mexican lunch by the sea-side. Returning to the port, our scooter actually broke down with a flat tire and a somewhat disassembled exhaust – luckily this happened at a resort so we weren’t stranded in the bush. The rental company has sent a replacement scooter right away and we made it back to the ship in time.

Limon, Costa Rica

We have joined a guest tour which took us to the rain forest. It included a pontoon boat ride along a river, and a train ride through banana plantations in an over 100-year-old historic train. On our tour, we’ve seen lots of wild life, such as Howler Monkeys and Sloths.

Colon, Panama

Because Jason had to work, I’ve joined a guest tour by myself, and the tour of my choice was one which took us to the Emberá, a Native American tribe who lives away from civilization in traditional villages. In fact, to reach the village took us approximately 30 minutes by motorized dugout canoe through the rain forest. Once there, the tribe has welcomed us and performed a dance show, followed by a brief introduction of their habits and traditions.
